Western Star History

Make "Western Star" appeared in the 60-ies., When the American firm "White" started production of heavy trucks lightweight design that met the weight standards of western US states. Their production is launched in Ogden, Utah, and then in the Canadian town of Kilouna, British Columbia. The basic model was a bonneted truck "White-Western Star-4800" (6x4) classic performance for the US, designed to work on long-haul transport or construction.

For the sake of ease of the machine its frame, fuel tank, bumpers, wheels, radiator and other parts were made of aluminum hood and tail ~ fiberglass. The car has a wide rectangular sink, lots of chrome for the exterior finish, in the interior used natural varnished wood and luxury leather varieties. The main power units were diesel "Caterpillar" with capacity up to 380 hp about 10 and 13 stepped gearbox. Since 1978, the company released a long-haul tractor "Western Star COE" - the most comfortable version of the standard car, "White Road Commander 2" and the only main "beskapotnik" this brand.

 

In 1981, the company "White" has acquired the Swedish concern "Volvo". Production Truck "Western Star" in the United States for a short time acquired the status of a branch of "White" company. But after three years it was closed, and a branch in Canada became an independent company Western Star Trucks Inc. She continued production of its only kapotnoi series, which became the basis of the program next year.
